This house was designed based on an existing property requiring extensive renovation in the hills surrounding Ragusa, Sicily, just 20 minutes from the city centre. The existing property is only 50m2 in footprint but we were able to develop a mezzanine using the highest part of the ceiling height that allows us to accommodate 2 bedrooms with two bathrooms. 

We opened new openings throughout the historic property to allow more light into the space, using the roofline as inspiration throughout the project. We transformed the backyard into a Sicilian oasis, doubling the available living space by adding a living room, dining, kitchen and pool area to the outside. Romantic, lush landscaping and historical preservation of original features were at the heart of this design.
